Data point to dads’ desire for closer involvement with their kids

We’re an imperfect bunch when collectively considered, but we’re trying.

And make no mistake about this: We love our kids.

Those two above sentences might just serve to adequately sum up a set of voluminous findings relevant to American dads across the country that were recently released by the nonprofit group Pew Research Center.

Concededly, the data-driven study findings reveal a wealth of diverse data linked with important dad-child subject matter. Nonetheless, the spate of information truly can be condensed into a single reality grounded in a demonstrated commitment of fathers toward their offspring. Namely, that is that fathers nationally are making unparalleled efforts to be firm and enduring fixtures in their kids’ lives.

The Pew research underscores that. It centrally notes that more childless men than ever want to become fathers. And it adds that those who are dads already want to be closely connected to the family home, even if they have divorced their spouses.

The motives driving that are elemental. Pew study authors say they are grounded quite simply in the desire of fathers to eschew peripheral contacts with their kids in lieu of having close and truly meaningful relationships with them. Researchers stress that “dads see parenting as central to their identity.”

Those are positive findings, of course, but they are hardly surprising. Family courts have increasingly recognized fathers’ child-centric rights in recent years, noting that children’s interests are most often best promoted by the steady presence of both parents following a divorce. We note at the experienced New Haven family law firm of Berdon, Young & Margolis that, “More and more, we are seeing cases in which parents share physical custody.”

We welcome contacts to the firm from Connecticut residents concerning any family law matter, along with the opportunity to secure optimal legal outcomes for all our valued clients.
